Can I drink water straight from the water filter?

I just got a nice water filter, but I am not sure if I can drink water straight from the filter. My filter connects directly to the tap water source. Someone told me that I need to boil the water before I drink it. My filter clears .5 micron particles as well as other metals and chlorine. Thanks!!!!

Where are you¡ How clean is the water before the filter?

You can most likely drink the water.

If your tap water is deemed safe to drink by the government then yes.

If your tap water is contaminated with dangerous bacteria and you are under a boil water order then probably not. Most filters like that are not rated for actually treating water. They are just to make it tastes better.

You do not need to take any further precautions than you were before.

It sounds like you did not traditionally boil your water before the filter was being used, so you do not need to now.

If you want to be on the safe side, let the water run for a few minutes to flush out anything inside the filter. Then you can be sure its safe and the filter is working properly.

Not sure why you would have to do anything else to the water if it is already filtered. The purifier that I have (http://www.lifeionizers.com/?utm_source=A&utm_medium=B&utm_campaign=C) does everything it needs, so I can drink the water straight from it (it is also one that connects directly to my tap water).
